City of Dreams Mediterranean holds its inaugural jobs fair in Cyprus

In Cyprus and the company behind the coming City of Dreams Mediterranean development reportedly hosted an inaugural jobs fair yesterday in hopes of filling as many as 1,000 positions.

According to a Friday report from the local O Phileleftheros newspaper, the move from casino resort operator Melco Resorts and Entertainment Limited comes as the new €550 million ($581 million) development is looking to open by the end of the year. The Hong Kong-listed firm earlier detailed that the finished 500-room venue is to feature eleven restaurants and cafeterias, some 103,333 sq ft of meeting and conference space and an 80,720 sq ft casino offering a complement of approximately 1,200 slots as well as over 100 gaming tables.

Existing effort:

Melco Resorts and Entertainment Limited was granted a 30-year license in 2017 that gave it the right to bring casino gambling to Cyprus in partnership with local conglomerate The Cyprus Phasouri (Zakaki) Limited. The firm behind a trio of gambling-friendly venues in Macau subsequently opened its temporary C2 Limassol enterprise before premiering smaller ‘satellite’ facilities in the nearby communities of Nicosia, Larnaca, Ayia Napa and Paphos.

Opportunity overflow:

Grant Johnson serves as the City of Dreams Mediterranean General Manager for Melco Resorts and Entertainment Limited and he reportedly told the newspaper that his coming facility is now looking for people to fill a range of roles including bartenders, dealers, waiters, cooks and restaurant managers. The experienced professional purportedly declared that these positions for those who are ‘ambitious, keen to strive for excellence and seeking to offer memorable experiences to all visitors’ will also run to front-of-house agents, animators and gaming machine attendants.

Reportedly read a statement from Johnson…

“Investing in human capital is one of the most important aspects of our operation. We focus on selecting and developing top talent so that our customers can enjoy the highest standards of service and offer world-class training and opportunities for colleagues’ professional and personal growth.”

Desirable deadline:

A subsidiary of Asian hospitality giant Melco International Development Limited, Melco Resorts and Entertainment Limited reportedly broke ground on its coming City of Dreams Mediterranean property in June of 2018 in hopes of being able to open the five-star venue by last winter. However, this timeline was purportedly later scuppered by the emergence of the coronavirus pandemic to leave the company now looking to debut the facility in the Limassol suburb of Tserkezoi by the conclusion of its land concession deal with the government on December 27.

The statement from Johnson reportedly read…

“Melco Resorts and Entertainment Limited develops colleagues’ skills and builds on their competences to enhance performance and delivers value and personal growth along with competitive remuneration and benefits packages. We take pride in providing opportunities that help advance colleagues’ careers in the global hospitality and entertainment industry.”
